[RISOLTO] Radeon HD 3450: quali driver?

Buonasera a tutti!
Dopo spiacevoli inconvenienti con il vecchio PC, me ne sono "temporaneamente" assemblato uno nuovo. Abituato alla magnifica obsolescenza del vecchio hardware, mi sono ritrovato di fronte a tristi problemi con questo nuovissimo.
Ho un problema con la scheda video, riportata nel titolo. La mia premessa è che ho sempre vissuto bene con un'ATI 9200 SE, e, un po' perché a mio avviso i driver Open erano perfetti, un po' perché i proprietari non esistevano nemmeno, sono sempre andato di configurazioni di xorg.conf e ho avuto una vita felice.
Con l'hardware nuovo, ho dovuto cambiare un bel po' di parametri... vi elenco quel poco che sono riuscito a combinare:

L'accelerazione 3D non è attiva. Voglio chiedervi innanzitutto se ad oggi è possibile farlo, ho letto un documento che lo negava ma era datato fine 2008, e spero sia cambiato qualcosa...
Come seconda domanda: posso migliorare con ulteriori opzioni la sezione?

Inoltre, come primo tentativo ho scaricato ed installato i driver proprietari. Con i fglrx l'interfaccia X mi dava uno strano schermo bianco che sfarfallava e poi bloccava il sistema. Cosa ho sbagliato?
Non che ci tenga molto, preferirei usare i radeonhd...

se hai scaricato i driver proprietari devi reinstallare il pacchetto mesa dal dvd di slack perchè l'ati proprietario sovrascrive le mesa originali, e le sue non sono compatibili con i driver open

Però c'è una cosa che non capisco... più di carattere generale.
Con la vecchia scheda (AGP) l'accelerazione 3D non si attivava finché non aggiungevo l'AGPMode nella sezione.
Per le PCI Express... ci sarà qualcosa di particolare da scrivere per fare la stessa cosa?

Aggiunto tutto. Purtroppo pare ancora che non sia cambiato nulla, ma se non altro il DRI è un'ottimizzazione che non avevo e ti ringrazio.
Se hai (o qualche altro ha) degli altri suggerimenti, ben venga. Io inizio a rassegnarmi al fatto che anche oggi non è possibile sfruttare appieno questa generazione di schede.

e comunque prova ad installare questi pacchetti aggiornati dal repository di sardylan (che ringrazio perchè grazie a lui la mia ATI X1300 gira a 1300 fps, non assai ma manco male)

stai attento perchè è una modifica invasiva...aggiorni mesa e drm oltre che drivers...quindi copiati da qualche parte i pacchetti originali dal dvd per un pronto ripristino

No, il Direct Rendering non è attivo, è da lì che mi basavo per dire che non è cambiato nulla.
Ora provo quello che mi hai passato.

@ ponce: sapresti dirmi perché quando li installo, all'avvio di X mi esce una schermata bianca e poi si impalla? Ho scaricato i driver di serie HD 3XXX.
Forse è troppo sporco il mio xorg.conf? Potrei provare a lasciargliene creare uno bianco?
