che tipo di driver usi?
ricorda che non tutte le schede vanno in Monitor mode.... ad esempio chi usa ndiswrapper o altri wrapper in genere.

I tuoi driver supportano la modalità monitor?
I miei, ipw2200, la supportano.. ma solo le ultime versioni. Ad esempio quelli integrati nel kernel non hanno tale feature, infatti me li compilo esternamente.
Se non lo fai già, prova ad usare la versione più recente dei driver e, sopratutto, non usare quelli del kernel (discorso che vale anche per ieee80211).

io uso ieee80211 e driver 3945 del sito
