@conraid : Tanti lodi, sono proprio imbarazzato senpai.
@slucky : no off-topic

[09:43:19] <Tyrael> if you want I can supply with important external updates from slackware packages
[09:43:30] <Tyrael> each month or so
[09:44:39] <rworkman> Sure; I can't promise to always act on them, of course, but diffs to build scripts for anything you notice will be appreciated, and I'll be sure to have the credit go to you for the cases where one of us wasn't already on it
[09:45:05] <Tyrael> dropline-gnome team is best to give the credit to :D
[09:45:18] <Tyrael> just to let slackware users know we are still alive :D
[09:45:31] <rworkman> hehe
[09:45:59] <Tyrael> but Pulseaudio is something to look into, it will replace esound
[09:46:48] <rworkman> Hrm, I don't know about that one. We've not run across anything that requires it, and for the most part, it just seems unneded
[09:46:53] <rworkman> unneeded, that is
[09:47:17] <Tyrael> its since this version of gnome an external dependecy
[09:47:44] <Tyrael> so I do think it will be required by others soon. not sure. thats why I said intresting to look into :D
[09:48:08] <rworkman> Until/unless we run across something in the tree that requires it, or yeah, lots of other stuff starts wanting it, I wouldn't expect it to get much traction here
[09:48:27] <Tyrael> no problem
[09:48:40] <Tyrael> oooh, another thing dhcpcd
[09:48:48] <Tyrael> why is version 3 still used ?
[09:48:54] <Tyrael> version 4 is out
[09:49:11] <rworkman> Funnily enough, nobody will bitch about *added* packages, - it's just the "OMG!!!11 replace stock packages" that gets whining
[09:50:14] <rworkman> dhcpcd-4.x has quite a few options that aren't the same as 3.x, and output differs in places; long story short, it didn't appear to be a trivial migration, whereas 2.x-->3.x was.
[09:50:41] <Tyrael> true
[09:51:13] <Tyrael> just wanted to know your opinion, we use v4 because networkmanager needs it
[09:51:31] <rworkman> Interesting.
[09:51:47] <Tyrael> no idea about the kde version
[09:51:49] <Tyrael> what they use
[09:52:02] <Tyrael> for their wifi applications, etc.
[09:52:33] <rworkman> If David Zeuthen will ever finish his latest rewrite of PolicyKit and make sure I can build it without PAM, I'll start doing some stuff with NetworkManager. Probably not for the main tree, but at least something that people cna install if they want it
[09:52:58] <Tyrael> uhmmm, we ship PolicyKit
[09:53:08] <rworkman> Yeah, but we don't :)
[09:53:16] <rworkman> You guys have PAM, so it's easy for you
[09:53:25] <Tyrael> let me see if we use pam with policykit
[09:53:28] <Tyrael> 1 sec.
[09:53:59] <Tyrael> yep we do
[09:54:27] <Tyrael> and Policykit for the main tree would be intresting
[09:54:42] <Tyrael> because that might lead to not shipping pam
[09:54:48] <Tyrael> for us that is
[09:55:01] <Tyrael> also Consolekit, Devicekit
[09:55:12] <rworkman> Replicating our current group-based auth in a PolicyKit-ed environment was far from trivial, and in fact, I concluded that it was impossible. David assures me that I'll be able to do it with the the rewritten version, whenever it's done
[09:55:39] <Tyrael> aah ok
[09:55:57] <Tyrael> btw, workman sounds as a dutch name
[09:56:20] <rworkman> It might be - no idea :)
[09:56:28] <Tyrael> you aint dutch ?
[09:56:43] <rworkman> Nope. Born in Mississippi USA and now in Alabama USA
[09:57:34] <rworkman> I'm woefully ignorant of my family tree, so I have no idea where it originated. I know that I have some Cherokee Indian a few generations back, but that's about it
[09:58:35] <Tyrael> hhehe
[09:58:57] <Tyrael> btw, I have send a note to pats mail about a bug in 12.2
[09:59:38] <Tyrael> I now have send the mail to you aswell
[09:59:48] <Tyrael> its a bug in pm-utils
[09:59:55] <Tyrael> its alrdy fixed in the current tree
[09:59:56] <rworkman> the pc file?
[10:00:02] <Tyrael> yep, the pc file
[10:00:08] <rworkman> Yeah, I sent the patch for that upstream
[10:00:43] <rworkman> Since that was new in 1.2.3, and nothign upstream was depending on it yet, it was decided to leave it alone
[10:01:33] <rworkman> Hrm, re libproxy, what uses that?
[10:02:11] <rworkman> I'll definitely look into the others and see about getting them bumped in -current; shouldn't be a problem there
[10:03:21] <Tyrael> libproxy is used by. 1 sec.
[10:03:54] <Tyrael> this is the desciption
[10:03:55] <Tyrael> libproxy
[10:03:55] <Tyrael> A library handling all the details of proxy configuration
[10:05:04] <Tyrael> libproxy is currently used by vlc and neon and libsoup and webkit are considering adopting it.
[10:06:31] <rworkman> Hrm, I'll keep that one on my radar then. Probably not used by enough other stuff to justify yet, but maybe soon
[10:07:12] <Tyrael> libproxy has no external dependencies in its core. Support for GNOME, KDE, NetworkManager, WebKit, Firefox/mozjs, etc are implemented via plugins.
[10:07:33] <Tyrael> more info about it
[10:07:34] <Tyrael> http://mail.gnome.org/archives/desktop-devel-list/2008-October/msg00040.html
[10:07:51] <rworkman> Sounds like it's worth investigatin; I'll look into it for sure - thanks! Anyway, 0406 here, and the alcohol is wearing off, so I think I'll head towards the bed. Thanks for the info; later :)
